さみどりのメロンの果肉すくいとり少女は想うパリの甘美を　

若美のメロンには一家言を持ってる。と言うのも、自慢じゃないが、いまでこそ町の特産品に成長してるが、そのはじめ、メロンの適産地を探していた種苗会社が、北海道と阿蘇、それに若美を実験地とした。兄はその育苗者として参加して実績をあげて、適地に選定された。のが今にいたる。そのはじめ契約栽培時はめったに高級なメロンをいただくことはなかったので、姿の美しさと共に甘味には驚いた。４半分も食べようならば唇が裂けた。
兄は進取の気に富んでいるが、飽きやすくって、生産者が増えるころには投げ出した。メロンばかりでは無く、農業も程なく廃業して家からも飛び出した。後年父が病んだ折思うところがあってか、高校生の息子を千葉のお寺の恩師宅にあずけて帰って、結局は家を継いで祖先を守る役を担っている。
ことしも若美メロンが送られて来た。こっちもつい贈り物に選んだりした。どうでしたか。やわらかくなる前にいただくのがただしい食べ方。冷やしすぎないで。

I went to the morning market this morning. There I found many melons from Akita.
Akita bizin is the most popular melon in all of Japan. This is my kind of melon, because it is very sweet, it has a good smell, and a fresh green.
When melon was very expensive, we rarely had it.
My brother experimented with manufacturing of melon’s a company. The experiment was a great success, and nowadays Akita is one of the greatest melon producers in Japan. My brother is a pioneer in melon production in Akita. He is my pride.
Any way, I like the name “ Akita bizin.”
I asked to fruit shop sending a melon to some of my friends.
The sweet melon is made by a place where night is cold and daytime is hot during summer. So Akita is the best place for the cultivation of melons.
